Case of Chyhir Jr. Comes to Nothing
11:06, 25/01/2002

At the proceedings on the case of Alaxandar Chyhir evidence was presented that according to defense, ruins the version of the investigators. Ruslan Sakalou, a welder, witnessed yesterday in court. It was the welder who on A.Chyhir’s request had installed a numbered part from one vehicle to another, allegedly stolen by Chyhir.

The investigators are positive that doing this former Prime Minister’s son tried to conceal the stealing of the van Ford-Transit. Results of an examination that found seams of welding serve as a confirmation. But the accused argues that he had changed a far bigger vehicle’s part with number, than it was found by examination.

It can turn out that Chyhir bought a stolen minivan with a part already replaced, but he did not know about it. A.Chyhir’s words could have been proved by Ruslan Sakalou’s evidence.

The welder explained how he took a part with number from another minivan. As said by him, it was a really big part of the vehicle’s body, and not only a piece with numbers. “There must be more seams, and not only those found be examination,” – said Sakalou.

Chyhir’s defense considered welder’s evidence to be key one, and did not conceal its satisfaction that this evidence was made. As a result, Chyhir and his attorney Alaxandar Pylchenka appealed to the court to carry out one more examination of the vehicle with participation of experts and witnesses, but the court refused. Judges agreed with the Public Prosecutor’s reasons that the findings of the first examination have not been studied in court yet. Attorneys hope that after that the examination will be repeated, as experts’ conclusion contradicts witnesses’ evidence.
