Former “Atlant” Director Returned From Asylum to Pre-trial Detention Center :: Charter'97 :: News

Former director of Minsk production association “Atlant” Leanid Kaluhin was transferred from the mental hospital in Navinki to the pre-trial detention center. It happened on January 30, and again his relatives were not notified about it. In the guarded of the mental hospital they confirmed that Kaluhin left, but they refused to inform about his diagnose referring to Hippocratic oath.

Kaluhin’s wife Ludmila in her interview to Radio Svaboda could not hold back her emotions. “They have told nobody, absolutely nobody. I did not know that people could be humiliated like this in our country. First they have taken him to insane asylum, without saying a word to us, and then they put him in jail again without informing us. He is a normal and healthy man, and, as far as I know, he was kept together with real lunatics”.

Ludmila Kaluhina thinks that psychiatrists found her husband healthy and he left the hospital, but she does not know for sure.

Kaluhin’s attorney Alyaxandar Pylchenka confirmed his earlier statements that Kaluhin was placed to the mental hospital with a number of violations of the legal procedure.

“They probably found his Health condition satisfactory, but I was not shown the conclusion of the experts. Now the investigation is to start, but I am not certain. I think that Kaluhin is innocent, and investigation just wastes time,” – believes attorney Pylchanka.
