Communication Tariffs to Go Uphill Again 11:07, 06/02/2002
The Belarusian Minister of communication Vladimir Goncharenko said at the February 5 department’s session, dedicated to the outcomes of the industry’s last year performance, that the tariffs on domestic communication do not correspond to the level of real wages. The Minister further noted that their low profitability would require a rise in their size this year. According to the official, the industry’s profitability constituted this year 5,7%, which is lower than in 2000. “Beltelecom” with a 24,5% profitability index has four subsidiaries working at a loss in provinces. 92 district state-run communication companies are also financial losers.
