Assistant Prosecutor of Minsky District Ill-Treats Her Little Adopted Child
11:06, 27/02/2002

The administration of the Moskovsky district of the capital addressed the court over the deprivation of parental rights of the assistant prosecutor of the Minskky district Tamara Knyazeva. Her beating of a 10-year adopted son Nikita Knyazev has been recognized by lawyers as an act of torture.

Assistant prosecutor of Minsk region Vladimir Stelmashenko, investigating into Tamara Knyazeva’s case, refused to comment by which article of the Criminal code the woman’s actions can possibly be qualified and whether the institution of criminal proceedings is a possibility too. The incident was characterized by the head of the adoption department of the Moskovsky district of Minsk Olga Borodina, who is convinced that they got to urgently take the boy from the woman: “I prepared all the normative documentation for court under the article 85 of the Criminal code. Further the court will decide whether or not the woman must be deprived of her parental rights. The fact of the boy’s ill-treatment is recognized as truth,” – said Olga Borodina in her interview to the Radio Svaboda.

The incident became known to the state bodies owing to the activism of the parents’ committee of the 2 “B” school grade, where Nikita is studying. The parents addressed the Belarusian Helsinki Committee with a concomitant complaint. This also cost a lot of time and effort to the schoolteachers from the school #219.

Meantime, the boy has nothing to hope for except the social aid: his foster-mother visited Nikita in hospital once twice in three weeks. According to the medics of the infant’s surgical center, Nikita’s physical and moral traumas had a serious impact upon his health: the boy needs both medical and psychological rehabilitation.

The final decision on whether Tamara Knyazeva will face legal action, is to be soon pronounced by the procuracy.
