Belarus Brokers Russia’s Arms Deals Says Stanislav Shushkevich 11:18, 01/03/2002
Former head of the Belarusian Parliament, leader of the Belarusian social-democratic party Stanislav Shushkevich said Russia is using Belarus as a channel for shipping her arms to Iraq, Iran and Libya.
As stressed by Shushkevich in his interview to the radio “Echo of Moscow”, he “is almost convinced that Russia is using this channel, for Belarus has not enough weapons for that purpose nor can it possibly have”. In his opinion, if Belarus is mediating arms deals, the suppliers are Russian firms, which manufacture it.
Shushkevich pointed out that Belarus is regularly visited by representatives of countries, linked to the terrorist activities, which are so respected by Lukashenka. In his opinion, the high-ranking Belarusian statesmen frequently visit such countries as Iran and Iraq.
