An investigation group of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Belarus has finished investigation of the criminal action instigated against the head of the neurology and neurosurgery chair of the Homel statemdical university (a former pro-rector on medical work) Yuri Yankelevich.
As BelaPAN was informed by the press center of the public prosecutor’s office, in course of investigation it was detected that Yankelevich, who was a head of the chair of the university, having proessional ties with the former principle Yuri Bandazheusky, in July 1997 and in July 1999 had a “criminal agreement about illegal accepting of foreign currency for assisting in entering the medical university of their acquaintances’ children”. Thus, it was informed that in July 1997 Yunkelevich took a bribe of USD 7, 000 from the family of Ignatchyks, in order to help their son and daughter to enter the university. Later the money was allegedly given to Bandazheusky. In July 1999 Yankelevich, who was appointed a head of the clinic of nervous diseases in Homel medical center by an order of the principal, using his position promised a doctor of that medical center Ihnatau to help a daughter of Ihnatau’s acquaintances to enter Homel medical university. He was allegedly given USD 5, 000 for that. On agreement with the former principal of the university this money were to be handed after the entrance exams were finished, the press center of the public prosecutor’s office informs. Yankelevich allegedly could not complete the crime because for certain reasons. On July 13, 1999 Bandazheusky was arrested.
The criminal case against Yankelevich was forwarded to the court. Yankelevich is under arrest now.
