Valery Tsepkala Lost Position Of Ambassador to USA 11:07, 04/04/2002
By the decree #167 from April 2, 2002 A. Lukashenka dismissed Valery Tsepkala from the position of the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to the USA and to the Mexican United States. On the same day the decree #166 was signed appointing V. Lapata-Zahorsky Ambassador to Lebanon.
Belarusian Ambassador to the USA and Mexico Valery Tsepkala returned to Belarus on March 2. He has been representing the interests of Belarus in America starting from 1997. According the official information, the diplomat is dismissed because of “employees rotation”. The name of his successor is still unknown. The Foreign Ministry does not comment on this information, telling that after Tsepkala’s departure the counselor of the diplomatic mission on political questions Syarhei Rachkou will be acting head of the mission. The rumors are that as a result of worsened relations with the USA Belarus could refuse to appoint an ambassador at all.
