Liudmila Karpenka: I Continue Struggle
11:14, 05/04/2002

The address to friends and countrymen by Liudmila Karpenka, wife of Henadz Karpenka, was sent from Germany to Belarusian mass media. Henadz Karpenka, former vice speaker of the Supreme Soviet, has died three years ago under mysterious circumstances. In her letter Liudmila Karpenka writes: “It has happened so that I live in Germany now. I never thought that it could happen. I love my motherland, my people. But starting from 1994 a disaster came to our country. Belarus was headed by a man who does not think of people, but of his well being, about his limitless power. Lukashenka had chosen political terror to remain in power, managing money of the state, of the people...”

“I cannot keep silent – the woman writes, - I do everything I can. The non-state organization named after Henadz Karpenka, established in Belarus, continues its work. The book “Captured By Time. Pages Of Life Of Henadz Karpenka” and three books of collected works are being distributed. Before the presidential elections I went to many towns and cities of our country and talked to common people. Many things were made at the international level. And the reaction was shadowing, threats, lies and a fear to lose my children, as I have lost my husband. But I shall continue to struggle under protection of free and civilized country. I shall return to homeland without doubt and I hope it won’t be long till I return”, - the appeal reads.
