“Slavneft” As Stumbling Block
11:01, 18/04/2002, Neftegaz.ru

Belarus can nominate its own candidate for the president of the joint Russian-Belarusian company “Slavneft”. “Should Russia propose her candidacy we, in response, will propose ours as well,” – Interfax quotes member of the “Slavneft’s” directorate, president of the Belarusian state concern “Belneftehim” Ivan Bambiza. According to the company’s statute, “we have the right for that”, explained Bambiza.

Meantime, he noted that there’s no need to dismiss the current “Slavneft” president Mikhail Gutseriev. Head of the “Belneftehim” hopes that “the Russian side will remove the issue about the company’s president”.

The “Slavneft’s” board of directors, at which they plan to approve candidacies for the presidency, will convene on Friday, April 19.

An extra-curricular meeting of stockholders, at which they will pass a decision to dismiss Mikhail Gutseriev and elect a new president, is scheduled for March 13, 2002.
