Muscovites Buy Radioactive Mushrooms from Belarus 11:01, 19/04/2002, Утро
Employees of the radiation service Radon of Russia found at the Dorogomilovsky market of Moscow 5 kilos of dry mushrooms, whose radioactivity level exceeded the norm by 20 times. The inspection revealed that the mushrooms contained radioactive cesium, which is easily consumed and engulfed by the muscular tissues. Accumulation of cesium-137 may provoke all sorts of plagues in the human body.
In the Radon’s report it is mentioned that they regularly capture the consignments of Belarusian and Ukrainian mushrooms, contaminated with radio-nuclides. So, those who are buying them at marketplaces, other than the state-run, are running a serious health risk.
