PROMINENT FILMMAKER YURI KHASCHEVATSKY COMMENTS FROM POLICE 11:28, 19/04/2002
The man has just returned from Prague, where he was part of the Human rights film festival jury. Following comes his commentary to the Radio Svaboda from the Sovietsky police station of Minsk:
-That’s lawlessness, complete lawlessness. We submitted a request to hold a rally and a meeting, for which we have our constitutional right, but they only allowed a picket. In our country there’s no rule of law, no moral background in order to solve such issues. I feel like sitting on a box with dynamite, ready to blow any moment. Opposition has no other means to protect their interests and the interests of every Belarusian as a result.
I felt all this lawlessness on my skin. For no reason received a punch on the head with a truncheon. The youths, which sat on the pavement, were heavily kicked by police. Schukin received a punch in the temple and lost consciousness. At seeing that, they threw him out of the bus, his head hitting the ground.
Right now the law-enforcers are normal people. They file protocols and smile, while then they were real beasts with beastly eyes.
