Appeal by Chernobyl Shlyach Organizers 11:06, 23/04/2002 ![]() Chernobyl Shlyach organizers passed their appeal ahead of the action, due to take place in Minsk on April 26. The action will start at 5.30p.m. from the Academy of Science. Following comes the text of the message: Chernobyl disaster affected every citizen of Belarus: - The forth of our territory, inhabited by 1,840,000 people, is polluted with radio nuclides; - 140,000 live on highly contaminated territories (from 15 to 40c); - They grow food their which we consume. As a result: - 200,000 people died from radiation in Belarus; - The disability level since 1986 rose by 50%; - Amount of genetic malfunctions of babies rose by 8 times; We demand: - To cease food production at the contaminated territories; - Cancel “decree #8”, which limits the foreign humanitarian aid to the victims of Chernobyl; - Stop the involuntary job allocation of students. We call on all of you, who still care for the Chernobyl problems, to take part in the Chernobyl Shlyach-2002, due to be held in Minsk on April 26. Start at 5.30p.m. near the Academy of Sciences (opposite the “Oktyabr” movie theatre). The event is sanctioned by the Minsk city hall.
