Uta Tsapf: Accusations of OSCE AMG Absurd 11:03, 21/05/2002
Head of the working group for Belarus of the PSCE PA Uta Tsapf deems “absurd” some accusations against the former head of the AMG Hans-Georg Wieck, voiced by the Belarusian authorities. The government charged him with pursuing political goals and interfering in the country’s domestic affairs.
On May 20 Uta Tsapf told the journalists in the national airport “Minsk” the following: “It goes without saying that those tasks, which Wieck faced as head of mission, were linked to the political goals. This was his task and, I figure, he solved it well”.
In her interview with the press, Tsapf stressed that at this point she doesn’t feel like foretelling the results of the OSCE PA consideration of the Belarus’ issue at the upcoming Berlin session. “As concerns the decision, due to be passed in Berlin, this is out of my competence. I will prepare the data and present it to the Permanent Council. The final decision will be passed by the Parliamentary Assembly members”.
