 NEWS OF THE DAY
IRON TORRENT
11:14, 22/05/2002, Sergei Anisko, “Dyen”

Only the laziest of journalists haven’t written these days about the weaponry sales by Belarus, for there were plenty of reasons to do so, including the visit by high-ranking US State Dept. delegation to Minsk and their statements’ implicating Belarus in supplying weapons to the countries with non-democratic forms of governance and zones of armed conflicts. Then there followed a six-day stay in Minsk by the Prime Minister of Iraq and the Minister of Finance Al-Azavi and an allegedly humanitarian visit by the Belarusian delegation, led by Kozik, to Baghdad. These days Minsk was visited by a correspondent of an influential British newspaper, which is investigating into the illicit arms deals. Seemingly, his coming to Belarus wasn’t accidental, as far as the journalist made an official inquiry to the KGB chief. Naive Englishmen are hoping to get a detailed answer.
