No Point in OSCE Leaders’ Coming Says Foreign Ministry 11:11, 24/06/2002
Belarusian Foreign Minister Mikhail Khvostov said on Friday that he sees no sense in the planned OSCE leaders’ visit to Minsk. “We believe that there’s no reason to discuss the OSCE mission’s staying in the country. The Foreign Ministry never declined negotiations, but meeting for the sake of meeting is inadmissible,” – said Khvostov at the press-conference.
The Foreign Ministry official told Reuter that the meeting’s format hasn’t been defined – the intention was orally delivered to the knowledge of the Belarusian representative in Brussels. He said that Portuguese official from the OSCE was willing to come to Minsk, along with the OSCE ambassador Ebergard Haiken, who’s been denied entry visa to Belarus since late last year. Belarus also refused to prolong visas to two OSCE group’s officials, after which the group’s activities in Minsk came down to purely technical matters.
