OSCE Leadership’s Visit to Belarus Put Off to July 11-12 11:24, 01/07/2002
A visit to Belarus by the OSCE secretary general and representative of the organization’s Chairman-in-Office, was shifted to July 11-12, Reuter quotes OSCE AMG official in Minsk Alina Jossan as saying.
Previously the visit had been scheduled for July 1-2, but the official representatives of Belarus have many times publicly declared that they see no point in their coming, as far as the sides’ positions aren’t coordinated.
“The proposed terms of visit aren’t convenient for the Belarusian side, as far as they fall on the main national holiday,” – said at the briefing the Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Pavel Latushko.
July 3 had been proclaimed by the Belarusian authorities to be the official Independence Day.
The OSCE delegation plans to discuss with the Belarusian authorities the OSCE AMG future in Belarus.
