Court Refuses to Cancel Arrest Of “Narodnaya Volya” Account :: Charter'97 :: News

Minsk city court has refused to satisfy the claim of the editorial office of the independent Belarusian newspaper “Narodnaya Volya” against the court of the Lenin district of Minsk. On June 18 judge of Lenin district court of Minsk Liudmila Hrachiova ordered to arrest 5 mullions BYB on the account of the newspaper, in connection with the action against the newspaper, that will be considered on July 29.

In his statement the editor-in-chief Josif Syaredzich says that the newspaper loses 50 thousand BYB every day because of this seizure, and calls the ruling of the court a before time punishment. However, judge of Minsk city court Ina Yablykava refused to satisfy the claim of the newspaper.

Josif Syaredzich in his interview to “Radio Svaboda” called this judgment another proof of the fact that there has been a political order to eradicate independent media in Belarus.
