Alyaxandar Bukhvostau: Leanid Kozik’s Election Was Not Legitimate
11:14, 17/07/2002

Not all members of the Belarusian Trade Union Federation agree that the New BTF chair was elected legitimately. The leader of the agricultural machine-building trade union Alyaxandar Bukhvostau believes that it would be more honest to appoint the BTF chair by a president’s decree. “Mr. Kozik could hold two offices, vice head of the presidential administration and Chair of the Trade Union Federation. The Chairman is to be elected at a conference. So Chair’s election at the plenum would not be recognized by many trade union organizations. The legitimacy of his election is rather flimsy. We should arrange a conference and finally decide what to do with the BTF”, - Internet outlet praca.by informs.

ULADZIMIR KARMILKIN DIED
11:06, 17/07/2002

Belarusian Renaissance, Belarusian journalism and history suffer an irreplaceable loss. Uladzimir Karmilkin has departed this life. There was not a single independent newspaper in Belarus where his photographs did not appear. The complete Belarusian history of the last decades, portraits of all prominent political and cultural figures of the present, unique audio documents of major Belarusian events can be found in his archive. He was beside Vasil Bykau, Zianon Pazniak, Ryhor Baradulin… Everybody knew him. Always and everywhere he seemed to be nearby: at mass actions and cultural events, at parties’ congresses and youth meetings. On July 3 Uladzimir Karmilkin was the only reporter who managed to make pictures of a protest action of artist Pushkin… And now he launched into eternity.
We grieve about Uladzimir Karmilkin. We shall remember him. We present own condolences to the relatives and friends of the late.
