Lukashenko’s Museum to Appear in Alexandria Village? 11:08, 01/08/2002, “Narodnaya Volya”
Within two days fifteen builders erected a fence surrounding Lukashenko’s mother’s house, laid bricks around her well and lifted the foundation. Residents of the near-by houses were lucky things too. They cleaned the territory around their houses and smoothened the roads.
The local authorities are keeping a close eye on the reconstruction of Ekaterina Lukashenko’s cottage (the woman currently lives in Minsk), especially the regional committee chair Boris Batura. Deputy chairman of the Shklov district council for public utilities Evgeny Semenkovich confirmed that the construction materials are delivered to the destination, but he declined to say what is the purpose of that.
Alexandria villagers turned out less secretive and more talkative. They confessed that the authorities harbor plans of building Lukashenko’s museum there, which would illustrate his young years. One of the ladies even said that some men in suits visited their houses and collected photos of a schoolboy Lukashenko.
Engineers of the Shklov region’s public utilities office, who never mentioned their names, underscored that they would erect a museum there. However, the authorities refuse to comment on the situation, while the construction process remains underway.
