Minsk Tractor Plant Remains in State Ownership
11:12, 08/08/2002

Minsk Tractor Plant will remain state-run. The government will render assistance to it as before, demanding appropriate feedback from it. Lukashenko said this during the presentation of a report by the MTP director general Alexander Pukhovoi.

As claimed by the head of state, the MTP industrial complex is one of the eight world’s biggest manufacturers of tractors. However, over the past year the company faced serious problems. As stressed by the president, they didn’t promote their commodity at exterior markets well enough, nor engaged their leasing network and used barter payments instead of the monetary. All this led to the diminished rates of production and rise in the amount of ready goods. At the moment, the plant accumulated at its warehouses over 3thsd tractors, costing around 60bln rubles, said Lukashenko. In order to thwart complete collapse and halt of manufacture, the president had to step up decisive measures, including on personnel.

At today’s meeting in president’s office, they analyzed the work of the new MTP director general Alexander Pukhovoi and his crew on the normalization of the situation. The president wondered what they had done to correct the previous faults and failures and how the planned parameters can be met in the future.
