Belarusian Tennis Player Suspected of Tax-Evasion at Home 11:17, 08/08/2002
On August 7 head of the tax police of the Leninsky district of Minsk Nikolai Nemtsev accused in a TV air famous tennis player Maksim Mirny of tax-evasion and non-submission of tax declaration for the year 2001.
The deadline for presenting income declarations in Belarus expired a few months ago. According to Mr.Nemtsev, “we cannot say for sure that Maksim Mirny conceals his earnings from the state, but the absence of his declaration makes us question his fairness.”
Soon the tax bodies may file in a complaint against the athlete to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry. Under the law, if someone encounters problems with tax inspection, he may be denied a right to travel abroad. This means that the player won’t be able to participate in the tournaments, reports “Kommersant”.
