The Federation of the Young Labor Union, the youth wing of one of the Polish leading parties, demands immediate release of a Grodno female resident Svetlana Neh. On August 12 the Republic’s Executive Committee of this influential organization passed a concomitant statement, which reads the following:
“Process on Svetlana Neh’s case contained all features of political persecution; the verdict was predestined, while its goal was to intimidate opposition. The Federation shares its solidarity with the arrested activist and insists on her immediate release. We demand that they stop violating human rights in Belarus and urgently set free all the political inmates, punished for their opposition activism… We are outraged that in the country, which calls itself democratic, they still imprison citizens for expressing their viewpoints.
Svetlana Neh, an activist of the Grodno branch of the Young Gromada, was captured on August 7 for her part in an unsanctioned rally “Chain of those who care”, commemorating another anniversary since the disappearance of the ORT cameraman Dmitry Zavadsky. For six days now the young lady has been held in the Oktyabrsky police station of Grodno. Protesting against her arbitrary arrest Svetlana declared a hunger-strike since the moment of her detention.”
