The first Belarusian national channel blames Russian media over the biased coverage of the recent events, surrounding the union state’s construction. SOYUZ-INFO correspondent reports that a significant share of time of yesterday’s 9p.m. newscast (“Panorama”) was dedicated to unmasking the true face of the Russian channels and other media, which strongly criticized the Belarusian authorities for their unwillingness to integrate after Putin’s model.

Influential American weekly “The Washington Post” called on the US leadership in the Sunday issue to help Russia return the nuclear wastes reserves, stored in a range of countries since the breakdown of the USSR. According to the paper’s observer, most attention must be paid to Belarus and Ukraine, reports Radio Svaboda.

Court of the Oktyabrsky district of Minsk, which was supposed on Monday to recognize missing general Yuri Zakharenko as late, halted hearings on this civil action until October 17.

Plenum of the agricultural trade union of Belarus will take place in Minsk on September 10. The delegates will discuss the dismissal of the trade union leader Alexander Yaroshuk. The man is known for his nomination for the presidency in 2001. Not so long ago Yaroshuk declared that he initiates a Russian-Belarusian group on holding the unification referendum.

Borisov ZUBRs commemorated one year since Lukashenko became victor in presidential elections by staging a protest show, reports Radio Svaboda. At the central square of Borisov there assembled some 150 people, 20 of whom were ZUBRs. The participants raised banners “Do if you promised and Go away if you failed” and others.

On September 9 the Belarusian diaspora in Netherlands picketed the Belarusian embassy. The protest action was organized by the Dutch branch of the Belarusian Center, reports Pavel Radzuk, chair of the Belarusian Center in Antwerp (Belgium). According to the head of the Dutch affiliate Eduard Krupianski “On the anniversary of pseudo re-election of Lukashenko, Belarusians of Holland express their protest against Lukashenko’s politics, which caused Belarus to be one of the poorest European country with awful living standards and where people have little respect for power. The assembled folks demanded resignation of Lukashenko, termination of violation of human rights in Belarus, truth about the disappeared people and the improvement of living conditions for common people in Belarus.”

Vitebsk UCP branch decided to celebrate the “Dozhinky” holiday in their own way. Seven of its members traveled to Polotsk on September 6, ahead of the coming there of the top Belarusian brass. The UCP activists carried out two actions there: an unsanctioned picket and, within the framework of the national campaign “Want to know truth!”, passed out flyers and tracts about the disappeared to the gathered crowds. 
Moscow Has No Unification Variants Claims Lukashenko 11:03, 10/09/2002

In NTV air Lukashenko said that Moscow doesn’t have a single variant for unifying the two states. Incorporation of Belarus into Russia is inadmissible. The EU type of structure is seemingly a good one. But in order to follow that scenario they have to first abrogate the existing Treaty, to which Belarus will never consent. Lukashenko believes that given the agreement is forsaken, they will have union no more. So, said the leader of Belarus, the best variant is the third – in compliance with the existing treaty.

Former first deputy of the late Chechen rebel commander Johar Dudaev – Saipudi Umhaev – was detained in Belarus, reports NTVRU.COM with a reference to “Interfax”. Belarusian KGB learnt that during the first Chechen war the man was closely connected with Salman Raduev and engaged in combat actions against Russian federal forces, including the notorious invasion into the Pervomaiskoye village.
