“Dozhinky” Feast Over 11:04, 10/09/2002, UCP press-service
Vitebsk UCP branch decided to celebrate the “Dozhinky” holiday in their own way. Seven of its members traveled to Polotsk on September 6, ahead of the coming there of the top Belarusian brass. The UCP activists carried out two actions there: an unsanctioned picket and, within the framework of the national campaign “Want to know truth!”, passed out flyers and tracts about the disappeared to the gathered crowds.
Around 3p.m. when the town’s streets were crammed with people, three activists – Fedor Bakunov, Tatiana Zaikova and Inna Syatkovskaya joined the picket under the UCP flag and banners “62% of Vitebsk companies operate at a loss!”, “Profitability of Belarusian companies – 9%”. The UCP members were seen walking with the portraits of the missing too. Polotsk residents treated the dissenters with respect, which is not to be said about local police, which detained everyone 10 minutes into the action.
The law-enforcers delivered the activists to the near-by police station and filed detention protocols on each. The duty judge Abramova passed reprimands against every one of the dissenters.
