Belarus Will Long Suffer from “Tough Situation”
11:05, 20/09/2002

One cannot rule out a possibility for electing Lukashenko for the third presidential term in a row, deems deputy chairman of the commission for industry, fuel and energy complex, transport, communications and entrepreneurship of the “house of representatives” Mikhail Poplavsky. In an interview to “Mediafact” the “parliamentarian” reminded that the US president Franklin Delano Rusvelt ruled over the country during four terms.

“Although the American Constitution strictly allows only two successive terms, the necessity was conditioned by the “critical situation in the country”, - underscored the “deputy”. Moreover, he added that “soon we may be living in a common state with Russia, where there will be only one president”.

There’s no real alternative to Alexander Lukashenko in Belarus, deems deputy chairman of the permanent committee for foreign affairs and CIS of the “lower chamber” Sergei Kostyan. According to Kostyan, “90% of Belarusians are already expecting the current leader to remain in power for the next term”.
