Belarusian Opposition Leaders Rendezvous with PACE Deputies :: Charter'97 :: News

UCP leader and his deputy met on September 24 with the head of the people’s faction of PACE Mr.Van der Linden. The sides discussed the support by one of the most influential PACE factions of the resolution on Belarus, as well as the interior political situation in Belarus. Van der Linden raised grave concerns over the situation development in Belarus. According to him, the faction will actively support the resolution, due to be passed during the PACE session.

The UCP press-service reports that Lebedko and Romanchuk met in Strasbourg with the chair of the PACE Political Committee Roman Yakich. The Belarusian politicians were mostly interested in the issue of creating the sub-committee for Belarus. According to Yakich, there exist three sub-committees in the Political Committee. To form the forth they need the approval of the Assembly’s Bureau. “A concomitant appeal has already been submitted to the Bureau,” – said Yakich. In his opinion, all organizational issues on setting up sub-committee for Belarus, including the election of its leader, are to be solved in October.
