The Lebanese honorary consul for Belarus, Elie Sarkis, and his wife Caroline held a cocktail reception last Thursday at the Kasser Assoufra restaurant in Dbayeh to mark the opening of the new Belarus Consulate in Lebanon.
Sarkis spoke of the recent history of Belarus and the progress the country had made both economically and socially. He emphasized the importance of the new consulate in acting as a bridge between Lebanon and Belarus. Belarus Ambassador Vladimir Lopato-Zagorski was confident that the new consulate was evidence of the two countries` commitment to expand and develop relations. He added that Lebanon is one of Belarus` most important partners and could act as a gateway to Middle East markets. He expressed his country`s belief in prospects of bilateral trade by supporting direct business links between businessmen from both countries.
