Minsk Embarks on Talks with OSCE 11:59, 04/11/2002
On Monday there will happen the first meeting between the Foreign Minister of Belarus Mikhail Khvostov and OSCE secretary general Yan Kubis. NTV reports that ahead of the meeting official Minsk declared that it is ready to consent to the OSCE presence in Belarus, given the AMG mandate gets reviewed. OSCE’s reply to the cause remains unknown.
Expectedly, the sides will concentrate on the acute conflict around the Advisory-Monitoring Group in Minsk, whose representatives had to leave Belarus due to the visa prolongation denial. Belarusian authorities hold OSCE AMG responsible over interference into the country’s interior affairs and support of opposition. “We want to analyze the conditions of the Belarus-OSCE relations and try to look into the future,” the journalists were told by Yan Kubis upon his arrival to the airport. He characterized the relations as “far from perfect”. “We need to close the old page and open the new in them,” – said he.
