Gas Attack Plotted to Bring Lukashenko to Senses
17:07, 04/11/2002, NTV

The reason for the curtailment of Russian gas supplies to Belarus lies in the fact that Belarusian debt for this type of fuel amounts to $200mln dollars and there are no concomitant papers, confirming that.

This was said in a Monday interview to “Interfax” by the former chairman of the National Bank’s board Stanislav Bogdankevich. Among other possible root-causes of gas supplies reduction he mentioned problems in the formation of the joint Russian-Belarusian joint stock company “Beltransgas”. “The decision has been passed by the Gasprom’s leadership, prompted by the Russian government in order to bring the Belarusian leader to senses,” – added Bogdankevich.
At the same time, “Beltransgas” claims that “Gasprom” is carrying out its planned gas supplies to Belarus. By early November it pumped into the country 10,2 cubic meters of gas.
