UCP leader Anatoly Lebedko kidnapped by unknown
17:15, 05/11/2002

Chairman of the United Civil Party Anatoly Lebedko came under a street attack half an hour ago. Lebedko was at the US embassy in Minsk when some vehicle pulled over near him. The plain-clothed agents put him inside by force and drove in an unknown direction. Anatoly Lebedko managed to make a call to his colleagues in the UCP headquarters and mentioned the number on the car’s plates: 1663MH. At the moment his cell phone doesn’t answer.

If you remember, Anatoly Lebedko faces lawsuit. The UCP leader is charged with libeling the president under art.367/1 of the Criminal code for publishing in “Narodnaya Volya” in November 2001 an article, in which he blamed Lukashenko over arms sales to rogue states. Politician may get up to four years of jail.
On November 14 Lebedko intended to fly to Washington to engage in the conference “Belarus after Lukashenko”, organized by the “New Atlantic Initiative”.
The details of the incident are being clarified.
