International Community Reiterates Demands to Investigate Political Disappearances in Belarus :: Charter'97 :: News

Petition with a demand to carry out an investigation into the disappearances of famous politicians and public figures in Belarus has been forwarded to Alexander Lukashenko by the International forum of the Commonwealth of NGOs from the organizations of the democratic countries. Over 100 countries of the world left their signatures under the appeal.

“BDG” reports that representatives of more than 100 countries, Belarus included, took part in Belarus. Our country, as different from all others, was represented only by the NGO “Center for legal assistance”, headed by the lawyer Vera Stremkovskaya. Belarusian officials hadn’t been invited to the forum, for the level of democracy in our country falls too short of meeting the democratic standards.
The event was held on a very high level, which is proven by the fact that it attracted such figures as the South Korean president Kim De Chjun, former US Secretary of state Madeleine Albright, businessman George Soros and other officials.
