PACE Special Commission Gets No Satisfactory Explanations 11:08, 29/11/2002
Official Minsk hasn’t yet presented any decent clarifications concerning the disappearance cases in Belarus, concluded the members of the special PACE Commission on investigating into the circumstances of politically motivated disappearances in Belarus, reports Council of Europe’s official web-site.
Under the chairmanship of Kevin McNamara (United Kingdom, SOC) they decided to get in touch with people living outside Belarus who may have information on the disappeared people and the circumstances of their disappearances. It invited members of the Belarus Parliament to attend the January session of the Assembly (27-31 January 2003) and expressed its intention to go to Minsk later on, in order to meet with all the parties concerned, including the authorities, the opposition and the families and lawyers of the disappeared people. Members of the Commission also invited the Belarusian MPs to visit the PACE session, due to take place in Strasbourg on January 27-31 and shared their intentions to shortly come on a mission to Minsk too. During their visit the members of the special Commission intend to meet with representatives of the political parties, officials, opposition members, as well as families and relatives of the missing politicians and journalists.
