UBA Greets Lukashenko with Kolyady
11:10, 06/12/2002

The “Union of Belarusians Abroad” wholeheartedly made a Kolyady (Christmas) gift to Lukashenko: a set of stationery, which had been passed out to every participant of the recent NATO’s summit in Prague: folders, notebooks, pens and a brief-case.

They also attached to the gifts their Christmas greeting: “Taking into account the fact that Mr.Alexander Lukashenko suffers from mental disorder, we realize that after American-European plot against the most Russian, most Orthodox and most Soviet person in the world, he received a real nervous breakdown. In order to comfort him, the “Union of Belarusians Abroad” congratulates him with the coming Kolyady holiday. The organization wishes to wholeheartedly give to him its present, hoping that it will sooth Alexander Lukashenko somehow.”
As you know, on November 15 the Czech authorities determined to deny entry visa to Alexander Lukashenko, preventing him from engaging in NATO’s summit in Prague. The Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic Cyril Svoboda cited three arguments, by which the Czech authorities had been guided when imposing on Lukashenko a travel ban:
- Belarus violates human rights and fundamental values, on which the Euro-Atlantic partnership is based;
- The head of Belarus, in case of his arrival to Prague, would require too much security, which is above the possibilities of the Czech Republic;
- He sought to use his visit to Prague in order to legalize his condition.
On November 19 14 of the 15 EU member-states imposed a similar travel ban on him and his officials, calling them “personas-non-grata”. The EU decision was upheld by the United States of America.
