New Russian Space Radiolocation Detection Station Installed in Belarus 11:01, 23/12/2002
IA “REGNUM” was told in the press-center of the Russian space troops that they launched in operation a special radiolocation detection system “Volga”, erected near the town of Baranovichi (Belarus). The station is designed to detect ballistic missiles and objects in outer space. A concomitant decision was passed on December 20, 2002 in course of the work at the afore-mentioned object of the commission from space troops, headed by the commander, general-colonel Anatoly Perminov.
“Volga”, which was included into the country’s space troops, according to its inventors can detect flying ballistic missiles and space objects on a several thousand meters distance. Moreover, the station is capable of accompanying the targets, identifying them and calculating the distances, thus ensuring the protection of western direction. According to the pundits, “Volga” is a technologically advanced station, with an excellent performance. It can also be sophisticated and has great potential in the future.
