Andrey Klimov’s term was reduced :: Charter'97 :: News

Punishment was remitted from Deputy of Supreme Sovet Andrey Klimov. He was sentenced to it three years ago by verdict of court of Lenin district of Minsk. According to Lukashenko’s decree Andrey Klimov is prohibited to leave Belarus.

Klimov’s suspended imprisonment would be over on February, 11. But judges of Octabrsky district court decided not to wait for this time and according to amnesty term of suspended imprisonment was remitted. Klimov is considered to be free now but only in borders of Belarus.
“I still can’t leave the country because of monetary suit against me. According to Lukashenko’s decree it is prohibited to leave Belarus in this cases, -- said Klimov to radio “Liberty”, -- because according to court verdict all debts of my enterprise were layed on me personally. But it is unknown when I’ll pay it back because sum is big. And I don’t think that I’ll have enough income for it soon. For person with regular salary it won’t be enough whole life to pay this money back.”
Three years ago Lenin district court of Minsk found Andrey Klimov guilty in stealing of state property and sentenced him to 6 years of imprisonment with confiscation of his own property. Court also prohibited Andrey Klimov to occupy managing positions. Also he must pay some dozens thousand dollars, which he stole (in court’s opinion) while building prestigious house on Lodochnaya street in Minsk.
