New Tide of Repressions Against Directors 11:42, 10/01/2003
“The heads of companies, who failed to prevent the untimely payment of salaries, must be fired without a right to occupy leading posts in the future”, the Belarusian Prime Minister Gennady Novitsky was instructed yesterday by the country’s president Alexander Lukashenko.
“Rosbalt” was told in the press-service of the Belarusian president that the head of the government reported to Alexander Lukashenko on the fulfillment of his instructions on the liquidation of salary and pensions payment indebtedness. According to Novitsky, Belarus almost eradicated the salary debt in the real sector of economy. By December 31, 2002 it constituted 601mln Belarusian rubles or 0,1% of the monthly salary payment fund. Lukashenko also ordered the government to “urgently consider the situation at each particular company, which, for this or that reason, delayed the payment of wages and demanded to step up adequate measures on the liquidation of indebtedness”. He underscored that “starting from January 2003 they will bring the violators of salary payment discipline to severe accountability”.
