60,9% Belarusians, according to the recent NISEPI poll, would vote in favor of Belarus’ accession to EU, if asked at the referendum. The overwhelming majority of Belarusians want to see their country as part of the democratic Europe. Only 10,9% of our countrymen would vote against that.
When asked “Is our country developing in the right or wrong direction?”, 54% said “in the wrong”. Only 26% have confidence today in the state propaganda about the future.
The survey also testifies that contrary to the unfurled agitation on the state level, 74,9% of Belarusian nationals say a decisive “no” to the full incorporation of Belarus into Russia.
In evaluation of relations between Russia and Belarus there dominate the following words: “neutral” (16,8%), “cool” (20,1%), “strained” (15,5%). Similar assessment was given to the personal relations between president Putin and Lukashenko: “neutral” (17,6%), “cool” (23,8%), “strained (17,5%) and “warm” – only 7,8% of the polled.
Our citizens don’t uphold the anti-western policy of the state, too.
Lukashenko regime’s cooperation with the rogue and pariah states isn’t welcomed either. The pollsters posed the following question to the surveyed: “Many countries condemn Saddam Hussein’s regime in Iraq. Not so long ago the UN Security Council passed a special resolution, which insists on Iraq’s demolition of its weapons of mass destruction. Meantime, the Belarusian leadership declared its full support of Iraq on the international arena. Do you approve of this policy of the Belarusian government?” - “No, I don’t”, said 57,9% of the polled.
So, Belarus has no other choice but to integrate into Europe.
