Ukrainian Opposition Readying to Picket CIS Summit :: Charter'97 :: News

Representative of the parliamentary faction “Nasha Ukraina” (Our Ukraine), leader of the Lvov regional organization of the Ukrainian National “Ruh” (Front) Alexander Gudyma said that they are going to hold a protest against the meeting of CIS heads of states in the Ivano-Frankovsky region.

In particular, the deputy pointed out that the national-democratic parties from three west-Ukrainian regions plan to picket the airport of Ivano-Frankovsk, which will welcome on January 28 the delegates of the summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Meantime, Mr.Gudyma underscored that the action would take place only provided the organizers don’t change the location of the summit – Ivano- Frankovsky region, which the nationalists consider their “ideological territory” and thus aren’t going to put up with the implementation of CIS summits and similar forums there.
