Professor Yuri Bandazhevsky’s Condition Deteriorates 11:33, 22/01/2003
Ahead of a trip to Paris upon invitation of the international human rights organization “Amnesty International” Galina Bandazhevskaya had a brief date with her incarcerated husband.
The lady says she’s utterly concerned over her husband’s health condition:
- I’m extremely worried about his state. What I saw was a sick person, suffering from heavy depression. Everyone can notice that at first glance, not only medics. When he talks to his close relatives, his mood changes every minute. At times he is joyful and then starts weeping. He is really, really bad, - Radio Svaboda was told by professor’s wife.
According to her, apart from depression Yuri Bandazhevsky also complained about heartache. He said that he cannot sleep at nights because of that pain. The prominent scholar receives moral encouragement from his colleagues from Europe and America, who send him letters every week.
On January 21 Galina Bandazhevskaya headed to Paris. Representatives of the international human rights organization “Amnesty International” invited her to France in order to find out Yuri Bandazhevsky’s condition and work out the program of actions in the liberation of a famous scholar.
Moreover, on January 20 Galina Bandazhevskaya received a copy of a letter, posted to Alexander Lukashenko by a laureate of the Nobel award, chairman of the Committee for the protection of scholars from the French Academy of Sciences Francois Jacob.
Mr.Jacob in his address to the president of Belarus reminds that Yuri Bandazhevsky is the only researcher in the world, who reached significant results in examining the influence of Chernobyl disaster on human organisms. His scientific works are extremely important not only for the Belarusian society, but also for the whole of our civilization.
