France, Switzerland to Host Actions of Solidarity with Bandazhevsky 11:31, 22/01/2003
This week will see the actions of solidarity with the Belarusian scholar Yuri Bandazhevsky in France and Switzerland. They will be run by the western colleagues of the Gomel professor along with the activists from the international human rights organization “Amnesty International”. Next month Basel will host a special medical symposium, where Yuri Bandazhevsky will be named an honored participant.
Upon the initiative of the professor of medicine of the University of Basel Michele Ferne and his wife Solange Ferne, there has been recently set up a special fund on the matter.
“We will fully cover Bandazhevsky’s attorney’s services and, moreover, finance scientific works, once commenced by Bandazhevsky but never finished. I know this scientist for many years and constantly turn to his works. I assume that the man can only be helped in this way: through the broad dissemination of his knowledge in the international medical environment,” – Radio Svaboda quotes professor Ferne as saying.
According to professor Michele Ferne, on February 15 in Basel there will be held an international symposium, dedicated to the follow-up of the Chernobyl blast. Among the main themes to be raised there will be the scale of child pathology, previously unseen ailments of the post-Chernobyl generation, which are witnessed not only in Belarus, but also France, Switzerland and Germany.
