“Kupalinka” Director General Files in Resignation 14:21, 23/01/2003
That’s the first outcome of a weekly action of protest of the female workers of the Soligorsk company “Kupalinka”. Director Oleg Garbak said that he intends to leave Belarus and open knitted goods business in Russia.
Starting from October last year a few hundred staffers of a thousand-strong collective, mainly females, have no work to do. They receive compensation for a halt in the manufacture process, which constitutes 26thsd rubles. In March the leadership of “Kupalinka” claims that more redundancy is yet to follow.
Oleg Garbak explains the need for redundancy by his desire to drive the company out of crisis, make the production cheaper and the commodity – more competitive.
Oleg Garbak told Radio Svaboda that he determined to resign, because he is sick and tired of trying to retain his post:
- I made up my mind to leave “Kupalinka” to the will of the masses. Today the company can be saved only by fantastically brave decisions. And so I filed in my resignation.
