Today’s activities of the Belarusian law-enforcers still fail to meet the real needs of the population, deems the Interior Minister Vladimir Naumov. He told the journalists about that in Gomel, where on January 22 he engaged in the session of the committee of regional police department. Liquidation of this drawback is one of the fundamental tasks of this police body. And so, the police divisions, said he, must do everything in their power in order to make their work meet the demands of the population and government.
At the traditional press-conference, held on January 22 in the Minsk police department, the law-enforcers reported before various Minsk mass media about the main results of the law-enforcement activities in the year 2002. Police sheriffs and chiefs from almost every unit took part in the event.
Opening the meeting, the head of the Interior Ministry major-general Alexander Rak assured the journalists that the criminality record in the country is totally under control. Last December saw a tendency of diminishing crimes and abuses. However, said he, the situation in the city remains problematic. In 2002 the total number of crimes committed exceeded 22thsd, which is 760 more than the level of 2001. Meantime, the amount of heavy felonies over the reported period fell by 389 and those, committed by the underage people – by 47. The criminal world of some neighboring countries is negatively affecting the state of affairs in Belarus too, added Rak.
