Europe Will Thoroughly Watch Over OSCE Mission’s Work in Belarus 15:54, 23/01/2003
The European institutes will be thoroughly watching the work of the new OSCE mission in Minsk and the fulfillment of democratic transformation standards in Belarus in the future, said former head of the OSCE Advisory-Monitoring Group in Belarus Hans-Georg Wieck in an interview to BelaPAN.
According to Hans-Georg Wieck, the activities of the new mission will differ from the OSCE AMG work. “The previous mission wasn’t restricted by time frames, but this one will have to renew its mandate every twelve months,” – said Wieck: “Nonetheless, I hope that the changes, inserted into the mandate, will not negatively impact the work of the mission, whose main goal is to uphold the process of democratic transformation in Belarus. The goal of the mission remains pretty much unchanged, namely to help the country develop democratic structures and civil society, where the country’s citizens will be able to use the full spectrum of human rights without state’s interference.”
