Court Recognizes KGB Actions Lawful 15:49, 23/01/2003
On January 23 the court of the Central district of Minsk recognized unjustified the lawsuit, filed by the leader of the United Civil party Anatoly Lebedko against KGB’s arbitrariness. Politician, in his turn, demanded to nullify the official reprimand, passed against him by KGB on November 5, 2002. Its text read that Lebedko maintained confidential contacts with the foreign surveillance.
According to the judge Valery Esman, KGB didn’t infringe on Anatoly Lebedko’s civil rights and strictly followed the rules on the order of issuing official written reprimands.
The politician himself referred to the trial as “inquisition rather than fair court”. The UCP leader believes that his complaint has never been fully dealt with. “The court never examined a single proof of my possible committing high treason, which could serve as the basis for issuing reprimand,” – said he. The court has been executing the will of the top leadership, says Lebedko, being both biased and dependent.
The UCP leader stated that he intends to appeal against the verdict in the Minsk city court.
