Entrepreneurs Readying for Massive Protests :: Charter'97 :: News

The Striking committee of the Belarusian entrepreneurs passed a decision on halting the actions of protest in Grodno and postponing the national limitless strike from February 1 till an indefinite time. Meantime, the Striking committee points out that they are readying for more massive protests in protection of businessmen’s legitimate rights and interests. They negotiate on the joint implementation of such actions. “We got to accumulate power and funds. The effect from the action will be way greater than from the unlimited strike,” – reads the statement of the Striking committee.

The basis for the postponement of strike was the meeting of the committee with the officials from the controlling bodies and law-enforcement structures of Grodno, during which there was reached a range of agreements that there will be no arbitrary confiscation of commodity from the entrepreneurs, who pay all due taxes.

At the same time the Striking committee may resume protest action if there spread some regional conflicts or if the authorities pass laws, which infringe on the entrepreneurs’ rights.
