International non-governmental organization “Transparency International” presented in London its report on corruption worldwide. The text of the document states that the general level of corruption in the globe has significantly fallen. However, “Deutsche Welle” in Ukraine was told by the organization’s representative Jeremi Pope that the situation with corruption in Ukraine hasn’t gone any better. He went on to compare it to the analogous situation in Belarus.
“Ukraine is a “black hole”. And I see little difference between it and Belarus. Everyone today criticizes Belarus and what’s going on there. Meantime, as far as Ukraine has more crucial geopolitical location, international community is very tolerant to it. In reality, both states relate to the same camp. They are equally bad”.
According to the member of “Transparency International” Ukraine’s main problem is common to those, faced to the east of the European Union – the country has no concrete goals of further development. He stressed that the countries “lack proper landmarks”, have no stimulus, which would motivate them to implement reforms. “Everywhere in these countries the corrupt elite is only preoccupied with how to enrich themselves,” – quotes his words LIGA online.
“Transparency International’s” position coincides with the general viewpoint of Belarusians about their authorities. As testified by the outcomes of the sociological poll, conducted by NISEPI in September 2002, 43,2% Belarusian nationals believe that over the years of Alexander Lukashenko’s rule, the Belarusian officials only became more lawless.
