Outcomes of the Ministry of information’s work in the year 2002 were drawn at an extended meeting of the committee, which convened on January 24 with the Information Minister Mikhail Podgainy at the head. The event also attracted country’s vice-speaker Vladimir Drazhin, first deputy head of the presidential Administration Stanislav Knyazev, heads of the country’s mass media and other national industries.
As pinpointed in the report by Mikhail Podgainy, last year was characterized by a whole range of paramount features and events, including the opening of the Second National TV channel, which over a short period of time took the lead in the general rating of TV channels. The financial base of electronic and printed medias has been significantly strengthened. There also commenced structural reforms in the sphere. The Ministry’s specialists worked out over a dozen normative legal acts, regulating relations in the sphere of information. At the same time, underscored the Minister, in the year 2002 there continued the fall in the amount of subscribers of the state periodical editions.
The state media have been once again called to take a firm stand in the country’s informational space, pointed out in his speech Stanislav Knyazev.
