10 Days Arrest for Anti-Russian Picket 11:46, 30/01/2003
On January 29 the Central district court of Minsk ruled ten days of administrative arrest against the activist from opposition Vyacheslav Sivchik. Right from the courtroom they convoyed him to the Central district court of Minsk and then escorted to Okrestina pre-trial confinement center. He was blamed over participation in anti-Russian January 19 picket on the day of Vladimir Putin’s recent coming to Minsk.
Two riot police officers acted at the process in witnesses’ capacity. They also said that they saw Sivchik give interview to the Russian media, which is a crime in itself. Famous oppositionist was charged under art.167/2 “Violation of order of mass assemblies” of Administrative code, reports BelaPAN.
Young Front’s leader Pavel Severinets is convinced that the jury passed a politically motivated decision. Vyacheslav Sivchik, he said, is a leader of the working group for celebrating the 85th anniversary of the Belarusian Popular Republic.
