Lukashenko Pledges to Impose “Iron Order” 11:56, 31/01/2003
Upon Alexander Lukashenko’s command they worked out a complex draft law “On fighting corruption”, which on January 30 became a matter of deliberations at the head of state’s working meeting. Corruption, says Lukashenko, is a horrible evil – rust, which destroys everything good, created by the society. And so we got to harshly persecute for it, said Lukashenko. Upon his instructions they intensified activities of all law-enforcement bodies on finding and eradicating bribery. The new legal act, deems Lukashenko, must be of warning and preventive character and therefore thwart illicit activities. However, the strictest of measures must be applied to those, who are proved implicated in the crimes.
The elaborated draft law contains a range of conceptual innovations, aimed at the complete eradication of bribery in the society. In particular, they seriously broadened the circle of those, who can become liable to the law. If previously they only punished the state officials, then now they will also target workers of state enterprises, civil servants, who are catering for the population’s needs. This measure is called to prevent the cases, when the state servants, working in medicine, housing, education and other spheres, extort money from the clients.
Moreover, the head of state required that all the law-enforcement system ensure effective struggle with corruption, including in their ranks. There must be established iron order in fighting corruption, underscored the president. “And the society will welcome that move,” – pronounced he convincingly.
