Eberhard Haiken Appointed New OSCE Head of Mission in Belarus 16:17, 31/01/2003
New head of the OSCE Bureau for Belarus is ambassador Eberhard Haiken from Germany. As is written in the official statement, circulated by the OSCE Secretariat in Vienna, the head of the Bureau was appointed by acting chairman of the Organization on Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), acting head of Dutch Foreign Ministry Jaap de Hoop Sheffer.
Eberhard Haiken served in 1996-2000 as German ambassador in Ukraine and earlier – in Switzerland.
OSCE Bureau in Minsk formally resumed work in Belarus on January 1 this year with the mandate “rendering assistance to the Belarusian government” in developing relations with the civil society in compliance with the principles and provisions of OSCE. Parallel with that the OSCE Bureau in Belarus is called to aid the government in the implementation of economic and ecological reforms.
